Stefano leads Decisio’s wastewater and resource recovery work, helping water companies get more out of what arrives at the treatment works — better process performance, better sludge decisions, and more energy recovered from both.
An environmental engineer with a mechanical engineering background, Stefano joined Business Modelling Applications in 2019 as a process modelling consultant and has led wastewater and resource recovery since 2020. He works with large water utilities on R&D, strategic decision-making and operational excellence, specialising in the optimisation of wastewater treatment, sludge management and bioenergy generation.
Before that he spent four years as a research engineer at Thames Water, on a STREAM Engineering Doctorate at Imperial College London sponsored by Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Anglian Water and the EPSRC. His doctoral research optimised the anaerobic digestion process through a better understanding of the fundamental operational parameters that govern it — the question sitting underneath most bioresources investment decisions.
Stefano holds an EngD in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College London and an MEng in Mechanical Design, Process Optimisation and Energy Management from the University of Glasgow, with an Erasmus exchange at Tecnun, Universidad de Navarra. He is based in London.
